Research and planning: Production progress 4

At this point, I have considered layout as the most important aspect. Using language like, "An inside look," instead of simply putting contents engages my intended target audience whilst using stereotypical language associated with teenage gossip.I have re positioned this headline because the layout needed to show that it was neat. I've made it slightly slanted so that it has a 3D effect. The ellipses also assists the gossip ideology due to navigating the audience to the contents of the page.
A feature which must be adhered to is the maximum amount of images however, they must be placed in an organised layout. This is why I have clearly aligned the editorial note as much as I could, with the coverline story of "Parisa" Again, both the editorial and the cover line uses stereotypical teenage girl language, in order to appeal to that 11- 16 year old target audience. To assist "Parisa's" coverline, I have used a pull quote. The pull quotes color adheres to the house styles color scheme. The words have directly come from the singer herself so this increases the coverlines interview value as well as increasing "Rising Star"/ the magazine's value. For consistency, I have used the house styles color scheme to insert page numbers in a bold serif typography. The numbers indicate to the pages in which you would find such a coverlines.

In addition, I have created an additional coveline section which will be either regular features or exclusives to the magazine.  From analyzing pop magazine contents page, I have noticed that they don't classify which sections are features or exclusives. Instead, they have a subheading in which it uses language of an informal register to demonstrate navigation of additional contents coverlines.

To increase magazine's value, I have allocated an area in which I can use more of my photographs as posters.

At this moment in time, I have started off my double page spread. The layout is important so this layout may not be permanent. I have used a heading which allows my audience to know that the coverline is an interview. I have included a subheading in which I am going to work on it's wording. This subheading supports the heading. I may use another photograph for my main image. I like the posture and the expression of this main image so I may allocate and area for posters. I am also contemplating changing the band name so that it sounds more pop instead of indie.

Research and planning: Shortened down make up tutorial

I have asked someone I know to participate, in my makeup tutorial. With limited experience of how to use iMovie, I cut down the original copy that was taken once. With the iMovie software I was able to insert the most valid sections of the clip material I had and I used edit transitions such as fade to black so that the final cut flowed. If I spent more time on the makeup tutorial, I would have played around with the settings lighting so that the lighting was consistent and less distracting. For this video, It has been recorded hand held.

Research and planning: Production progress 3

At this point, I've added an editorial note. The language used holds an informal register which will create an entertaining tone. I've also considered embellishment through borders to block of sections which keeps a clear layout. To create additional coverlines, to adhere to conventions, I have not categorised them as featured etc... but used stereotypical teenage girl language to show more context.
I've only just started on the double page spread. Here, I have used the gradient tool to adhere to the house style. I have also began  to write my headline which has adhered to the colour scheme.

TV drama document: Analyzing a clip from the Fault in Our Stars

Here I have made quick notes on a clip from the film The Fault In Our Stars. I have watched the 3 minute clip twice. The second time was when I made as many notes as I possibly could. With practice, I'm hoping to be able to make many more so that I have much more to write about. Shortly, to accompany my notes, I will insert the short video clip I used for this analysis.

Representation- Age and disability: delinquents
Long shot- to show every one in frame and where the actors are which creates relevance to the scene
Direct address- Significance to character relationships
Props- eggs- enforces the delinquency ideology
Straight cut- fast pace so that you can see quick expressions
Shot reverse shot/ over the shoulder shot- conversation
extreme long shot- establishes the scenery
medium close up- relevance to Augustus's language
Diagetic sound- breathing and alarms
Non diegetic sound- incidental music- tone of the scene.
Two shot, medium close up- to show the closeness of the characters within the frame, that's why they are hugging.
Non diegetic- sound bridge- the backing track caries on to the next scene. Builds up pace so that it invokes emotion from the audience.
Match cut- focuses on Hazel's mobile phone and has diegetic sound coming from the phone. To get to the next scene, they used a fade to black and jump cut. This continues the scene on whilst making the audience believe something bad will occur.
An eye line match was used to show that the focus is on when Hazel picks up the phone.
Jump cut- jumps forward in time so that we know that Hazel is going to find Augustus. This moves the narrative along.
Tracking shot- tracks the cars movement at a craned angle
Eye line match- allows a quick point off view so that we see what Hazel is witnessing.

Research and planning: Starting contents page and double page spread

Today I have started creating my contents page. I have started creating an editorial which I'm trying to create a clear but busy layout. This means that the gutters will need to be clear and every section must be allocated. The blue box around my model Caitlin, I will probably take out because it makes the contents page look more abstract. Instead of having a headline which says contents page, I called it an inside look which makes the magazine have an entertaining language. According to audience feedback, one of the most features which increases pop magazine value is the gossip factor so the language used e.g "OMG there's more" and "inside look," has connotations to that.
I haven't done much to my double page spread but I started by placing the bleed lines on the page. I also filled in a gradient fill with my color scheme which is the house style I have set. At this point, I'm trying to figure out how to place my main images on the page and where to put my double page story. The double page spread needs to have a busy layout but the language used must have an informal register.

Research and planning: Photoshoot for contents page and Analysis of photographs

To take this image, the scene was set with natural high key lighting. This will make it easier for when I use quick selection tool, to take out the background. Costume wise, her clothing has connotations to pop. The leather jacket style has the "individual artist," style. Considering mise en scene, the makeup is subtle which is conventional to pop magazines. She also has that red lips style which makes the image stand out more. It's also the same trademark style of Taylor Swift who is a pop artist so I copied that idea. Posture and facial expressions holds connotations to a light hearted tone. The image will be great for a poster because it's fun and has alot of characteristics to it.
This image I have used for my main contents page because It's simple and her facial expression shows she's happy. Costume wise it's very fashion forwad, simple yet has pop artist connotations. The intended target audience age range is 11-16 years old so you wouldn't have an image that's too revealing but pop magazines tend to have images which shows a slight bit of flesh which is what I have captured in this image. Her belly bar is revealed which is also a style that is popular in the pop teenage audience.
In this image, I have used a medium close up lit with high key lighting/ natural light. I have also included a prop of an umbrella so that the image has a quirky edge. It also helps keep focused on her facial expressions which shows her nice complexion.
You have a wide shot that keeps Caitlin's full body in focus. Even though the image has a simple but quirky edge, I can't use a full body shot for a contents page because it makes the magazine look more indie.
This image is quite humorous and shows fun characteristics which is conventional to pop magazines. It also highlights facial features which displays a joyful expression. I'm going to take out the background and use it as a poster which will increase magazines value. Posters are also conventional to pop because it allows the audience to have professional images for them to keep.

Research and planning: Deciding main image for double page spread/ draft of double page spread

I am deciding on what main images I should use for my double page spread. I have also included the basic features to a double page spread. Considering audience feedback, these drafts include gossip and celebrity interview story lines.

The interview is split into two separate interviews but the same questions have been asked. This is an exclusive,The who hotseat, which interviews two members of the band. These details may include opinions about other band members but it will be asked in a quirky, entertaining way.

This double page spread interviews a single member from the band. This will create entertainment value which will be responding to audience feedback. The Who Hotseat for a single band member will release light heart gossip about the other band members.

I may use this image for my main image because I can do a split interview with compatible answers.

I may also use these images so that the split interview context could be boys V.S girls.

The main image will support the context/ double page spread story because I want to keep with the interview questionnaire which has been decided by my double page spread story post.

Research and planning: Deciding on coverline images

Here, I am looking at how my smaller images look on the page. I have used Powerpoint and word to create a rough outline. Powepoint has aloud me to take out the background but I will use the lasso tool on photoshop for the official front cover. These images will be put on my Photoshop front cover and this includes the coverline stories, I have used.

Again, I have used word and power point but inserted two different additional cover line images. These use a variety of shot types and not all of them use allocated borderlines. This makes it less collage and creates the professional edge. I have used a wide shot to keep in frame the full body so it demonstrates posture and facial expressions. The other two are closeup which focuses mainly on facial expressions. To keep the conventional light heart pop ideology, the facial expressions are happy. The make up is also simple so that it keeps a subtle appearance which is also conventional to pop magazines.

Research and planning: Production progress 2

At this point, I have moved my image, masthead and strapline more to the bottom. This is so then I can add cover lines, with conventional to the genre, image aided. I have also added images as posters from my concert so that it increases the magazines value. Once I have added coverlines supported with images, I will have 5 coverlines which is the least amount of features to be advertised on the front cover of a pop magazine.

Research and planning: Potential main images for front cover, contents and double page spread

From my photoshoot:
Slide 1

The pictures in this slide have sections which has been cut off/out frame so I can't use these.

Slide 2
I may be able to use any of these because the frame is tight so it may work for my double page spread.

Slide 3
Different postures are used in these images to portray different personalities.

Slide 4

Slide 5

Slide 6
The two at the bottom could have been used for front cover or contents page if all persons were placed in the frame and not cut off.

Slide 7
The image of just James is quite inventive and if I do a 2 way split interview for my double page spread, that image would be appropriate. The posture would also create a synergy of facial expression characteristics to the front covers main image.
Slide 8

Slide 9
These images seem more pop-indie genre so I probably won't use them for my magazine. This is due to the posture portraying a certain vibe but I could use them for posters.

Slide 10
The full band images aren't tight enough but I could photoshop the background out to get an individual band member.

Research and planning: Social networking feedback

I have asked 3 people a sample of my potential interview questions so that they can pick their favorite three.
Two people have picked question 20: Best stage moment?
1 Person has picked question 15: First celebrity crush?
1 Person has picked question 3: What's the naughtiest thing you have ever done?
1 Person has picked question 4: If you could turn back time, what would you do differently?
11 Person has picked question 10: Any hidden talents?
Person has picked question 2:Who inspires you more: family member or celebrity?
1 Person has picked question 1: What's your worst habit?
1 Person has picked question 13: First concert ever?

One of the audience interpreted wrong how I delivered my question but they have considered other coverline ideas which would create audience interest so I will consider their cover line story ideas: Pictures of celebs with and without make up/ tips on health by band members.

The audience I have asked, has also stated reasons why they picked the 3 as there favorite questions
(I've reworded some of their answers.):
"I like 3 because I want to know what they did."
"Question 2 is a question everyone can relate to because they can ask themselves that."
"It allows viewer to know about the celebrity."

This positive feedback shows that the interview questions I want to include in my cover line- the who hot seat is appropriate so that I can engage/ create interest for my intended target audience.

Research and planning: Double page spread interview question ideas

Through audience feedback, I know the most interesting story is an interview which holds information relevance so that the audience can feel closer to the artist. The typography serif will be serif font so that the sharp edges makes it easier to read.
To aid me with conventional questions I could ask, I've watched other pop hotseat videos which has inspired some of the questions below as well as social networking feedback...

1.What's your worst habit?

2.Who inspires you more, family member or a celebrity?

3.What's the naughtiest thing you have done?

4.If you could turn back time, what would you do differently?

5.Who's would you crown the biggest diva?

6.What's your pet peeve?

7.Out of the boys, who gives the best girl advise?

8.Biggest insecurity, the deep stuff?

9.Favorite song to sing in the shower?

10.Any hidden talents?

11. 3 fun facts about you guys as a band that everyone would be surprised to know?

12. What is your nerdiest obsession?

13. First concert you've ever been too?

14.Band member who gives the best love advice?

15.First celebrity crush?

16.Guilty pleasure TV show?

17. Members most likely to bicker?

20.Best stage moment?

Research and planning: Production- Front cover progress 1

At this point, I haven't made much progress but I have looked through all my images to see which photographs would be best for my front cover. I decided on this image for my main image because you have different characteristics and the band dynamic feel which can be associated/ connotations to the facial expressions. I have also learnt how to apply the lasso tool so that the edges are sharp. I have also changed the images lighting so that it has a warmer and brighter conventional feel. The masthead has also been redone so that it's not pixalated. One problem with this post, is that that the pug wan't present so I re did it. I've also put in a puff which adheres to the colour scheme house style. My new task is to change the bands name because it sounds more indie than pop. I have also used a lot of shape vectors so that it categorises areas. Right now, I want to add posters because it will increase my magazines value. I also need to work on where to place coverlines so that the front cover is busy. I've also used healing spot brush tool which didn't take long because my artists have really clear skin.

Research and planning: 24th Novembers week post

1.To create an Emaze document of the potential magazine images
2.To take the magazine images using canon camera
3. To book the photshoot room for Wednesday.
4. To ask models to bring selected cloths so that the band are co-ordinated
 4. To book props for Wednesday's shoot

Research and planning: Production stage: Front cover progress

I have played around with the backgound colour, changing the colour scheme from blue, yellow and pink. I knew pop conventional front cover is very busy but until now, I haven't noticed every intricate detail. This is why, by using the gradient tool, I have changed the background to white/ pink. At this point, I have created the pug of the magazine, which is the issue, price and date of magazine release. I have also slanted my masthead because the conventional pop magazine is a messy layout but clear areas for coverlines etc... I have also created one coverline including different typography's and a colour scheme of pop conventional colours. This coverline will support my main image.

Research and planning: Word Software Re-done draft of front cover

I've considered audience feedback. In this feedback, I was told that the best masthead name and typography is the one I have used. I have also been told that females are what people want on a teenage girl PPP magazine so I used a silhouette. Considering, additional features that attract an audience, I have made my puff a competition. This will engage my intended target audience which will increase the magazines value. The price everyone thought was most appropriate, has been put as my selling price.

Research and planning: The weather forecast- 24-28th November

The weather forecast may change for Hyde but I have picked hyde due to my potential locations. I'm more likely to pic the photo shoot room but the best day to take the pictures is next monday or wednesday because the weather is moderately okay. The weather will still need to be considered for props transferring. If the weather forecast doesn't change, then the 1st December onward is when I must consider taking the photographs so that high key natural light will be used.

Research and planning: Coverlines ideas

- First of all, the pop artists names aren't actual pop artists but the vamps.

Conventionally, the amount of cover lines 5-8 but a featured section is posters. Posters attract my target audience because it increases magazine value.

Production and planning: Typography for masthead- starting magazine

Using photoshop software, I have begun Rising star. The layers have been named according to it's media terminology e.g the blue lines are bleed lines which for printing purposes, the context doesn't go over.

Research and planning: Production plan 5

Shot list
I have named eight shots and the reasons why they will create impact and effect to capture a great main image.

Research and planning: Production document 4

Shooting schedule
The shooting schedule isn't over a long period of time because i'm not shooting to create a film. However, The photo shoot period I've allocated is an 1 hour and 30 minutes so that I can make sure that I can capture the best photos.

Research and planning: Production documents 3

Risk assessment
Here, I have included details such as my magazine name, how many group members and solo artist there will be (4 members, 1 solo artist), my name is shown so that I take total responsibility of my magazines production.

Potential aspects that could be a hazard to my models, public and props have been ticked and I have followed up with a solution e.g photo shoot room so that weather is not an issue.

Research and planning: Production plan 2

Location Recce

This room is the photoshoot room. The categories explores all that needs to be considered in my shooting area so that the images can be the best they can be. The hazards are not the same as the risque assessment because this hazard focuses more on the power information.

The second location is Hyde park which would be an image taken in natural light so all the other aspects of mise en scene and cinematography shot types will be the only other two aspects to be considered.

Research and planning: Production document 1

Actor Release Forms

For my magazine, I have asked the people who I want as my models if they would like to freely participate in my pop magazine. This shows they have consented to being my models.4 will be part of my band- 2 boys and 2 girls. The other female will be my single country pop artist which will be advertised/ launched as Taylor Swift has.
